Covid-19
In addition to worrying about having an ample supply of food in the house and feeling anxious over shopping in crowded supermarkets, you may be concerned about whether you can get COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, from the food that you eat.
Here’s the good news: “The science around coronavirus continues to unfold, but there is currently no evidence that the disease is transmitted by food,” says Donald Schaffner, Ph.D., a distinguished professor in the department of food science at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
What we are doing at Fitrah Farms to prevent the spread
We will keep doing what we have been doing by having good sanitary practices. This means washing hands before and after preparing packaged foods and during while handling raw meat, poultry, or eggs—as well as before we eat. We are washing all fruits and vegetables. In addition, to be sure we don’t cross-contaminate foods we are keeping raw meat separate from other foods, using separate cutting boards for meat and vegetables, and using a food thermometer to ensure safe cooking temperatures. We are refrigerating any perishable foods and leftovers promptly. Gloves and mask will be used while packaging food.
