Our Story

Our Family

After living and teaching overseas for a decade, we returned back to the U.S. and moved to Northern Virginia within the DC metro area. Suburban life had its comforts and convenience, however, our true calling was to embrace a self-sustaining lifestyle.

Our family of 11 took the journey of a lifetime by moving out of Northern VA. Taking a leap of faith by selling all of our belongings, buying an RV, and moving to Central VA, would prove to be one of our family’s best decisions. We bought rural land in order to build our home and to ,one day, build a community retreat. Our main goals are to raise our kids on a homestead and to serve others on our family-run farm business.

From home-birthing to home-schooling our 9 kids, we strongly believe in old school traditional values and a back to basics philosophy; farm life seemed to coincide with our already held beliefs.

After attending several workshops and conferences with Joel Salatin and other well-known farmers, regenerative practices sparked an even stronger drive to pursue farming, using pastures and farmland to serve our community.

Fitrah Farms Is Birthed

We started Fitrah Farms out of a desire to live a sustainable lifestyle for our family that grew into fulfilling a community need for quality, nutritious REAL food. Despite being away from close friends, relatives, and securing minimal funding, we still rolled up our sleeves and began our farm, literally, from the ground up.

We are now a family-run farm with regenerative farming practices as our new way of life.

We define wellness in a more holistic way to include how our food is raised, processed, and packaged. As advocates of healthy and nutritious foods, our main goal is to create awareness of pastured farm products, organic growing practices, and educate folks on food’s medicinal qualities.

Eventually we hope to build a community retreat on our land in which we offer agritouristic activities, among other things, for people to enjoy.
